Kick Off the New Year with New Faith Habits

Devotional

As we begin a new year, we’re hoping 2021 will look a lot different than what 2020 looked like. But even if it doesn’t, even though there’s still uncertainty, one of the things we’re absolutely sure of is that we need to do everything we can to help reengage kids and their relationship with God. What does that look like, personally?

We always say that we want every kid, every day in their faith, to hear, pray, talk, and live.

What that simply means is they learn to be aware that there’s a God around them, even at a time that’s unpredictable. And they learn how to listen to God through scripture and listen to God’s spirit and listen to what God is saying through other people – that they learn how to talk. It’s more important than ever that kids have conversations about God and their faith so they can express. There is something in expressing to other people how they see God that helps shape their faith.

They hear, talk, and they pray.

They need to know that God is actually present, that they can actually have a conversation with Him, and that He cares about what they’re going through and what they’re thinking. They need to also recognize that there’s a life to live, and that their faith is something that can actually be expressed in the way they serve and the way they care about the people around them. Because most of life really is interacting with other people. And Jesus actually showed up 2000 years ago to say, “I didn’t just come for you…”

So, there’s hear, pray, talk, and then live. I mean, Jesus actually said he came so that we might not only have life, but have life more abundantly. Then he taught us a secret, that the idea of serving him, the idea of loving him, really had a relational context. It really had to do with how we serve and treat other people, and that worship is more than a song, it’s really how we connect with the people around us and how we connect and live life.

What we hope will happen is that you’ll do everything you can possibly do to give kids the resources they need every day to hear, pray, talk, and live. We hope that every kid who grows up in your church or grows up in your home owns their own faith and knows they never have to do faith alone. That’s why this is a great time of the year and a great season to give them something that helps them engage with God in a personal way every day.

Our goal will be to put a devotional in the hands of every kid. That’s why we want to make it as easy as possible for you to put a devotional in the hands of every kid or teenager. Just check out orangestore.com.
